Take the advice from our far sighted Mr Lee Kuan Yew
Take the advice from our far sighted Mr Lee Kuan Yew
This morning, my dad came over to my house at 6:30am as I need to go to school to conduct oral examination. He then told me that I better let Wan Qi speak more Mandarin, dont neglect Mandarin as he felt that Wan Qi's spoken Mandarin is not as good as before. He warned me that Mr Lee Kuan Yew had already hinted Singaporeans to learn our mother tongue and we better listen to his advice. If not our younger generation who is not able to grasp this language well will suffer.
Yes, I defintely agree with that. In the early 80s, former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew had warned that the easy supply of maids would dry up once the neighbours became more prosperous. And true enough nowadays there have articles saying that the supply of Indonesia and Phililpine maids are going to drop drastically.
In view of that ,we better let our children learn Chinese well. It will be a shame if we did not heed his advice and still think that having our children speak the ANG MO accent Mandarin is cool. If we do that we will be putting our children's future at stake.
So after what my dad told me I quickly took the P1 Chinese assessment book from Malaysia for Wan Qi to do. Haha I told her that Mr Lee Kuan Yew already warned us to learn Chinese well if not she will not be able to have a good job next time. Quickly she started doing the assessment without any hesitation. Hey it works.

Our Emotional Encounter with the Lizard
Yesterday after Wan Qi's rehearsal for her musical concert, I decided to bring Wan Qi to my cousin's house as both Wan Qi and I wanted to take a look at the 3mth old poodle.
While we were approaching my cousin's house, I felt something dropping on me. I was a bit apprehensive as my sixth sense tells me that its a lizard. I quickly take a glance at my t-shirt and skirt and was relieved to see no trace of it.
Then Wan Qi started to shout,"Mama, Mama , there 's a lizard on your back".The moment I heard this, I was trying to convince myself it was on my "BAG" and not on my "BACK". Instantly, I threw my bag away. But Wan Qi continued to shout"Lizard !!!Lizard !!!" At that moment, I knew that the lizard was on my back. I started shouting to ask Wan Qi to help me fan it away. Unfortunately, she was scared of lizards as well. She started shouting, screaming, crying all at the same time because the Mama was shouting, screaming and almost crying as well. I dont dare to move and I dont dare to use my hand to touch my back. I tried to jump a little hoping that the lizard will drop off and DIE. But it didnt. I was hopeless as only my niece was at home, my cousin was not at home.
I was at a loss, thinking this is the end of me. Then my cousin's neighbour who heard our shouting , screaming and crying , opened their door and asked me what had happened. I shouted "Lizard!!! Lizard!!! There is a lizard on me!" The kind lady neighbour quickly got his husband to help me. He got an umbrella to help me fan off the lizard. But this action took quite a while cos Wan Qi was crying and screaming so the kind lady had to ask Wan Qi to go over to her before her husband can fan off the lizard. Gosh!!! It lasted like ages!!!
The lady neighbour is really very kind. She even hugged Wan Qi and told her not to be scared. She said Wan Qi's heart was pumping very fast. I was apologetic for causing Wan Qi to be so scared but really have no choice. I was scared out of wits myself.
After her husband fan off the lizard, the lizard went into my cousin 's house and set off another round of screaming and shouting as MY NIECE is also afraid of lizard. hahaha(Now I can laugh in fact as I am writing this blog, both Wan Qi and I are laughing and laughing)So the wife actually asked his husband to go into the house and catch the lizard. And her MACHO HUSBAND went to catch the lizard barehand with the help of a piece of tissue.
When he caught the lizard and was about to come out of the house, this set another round of shouting from me. I ran and shouted running towards my cousin's neighbour's house together with the neighbours' children. Oh my goodness, it was a big and long one. YIIIIIII so so scary. Then the kind lady neighbour told me this is the first time she saw her husband catching the lizard barehand. He never catch it as he himself is also a bit scared. Then she said it was amazing he actually catch it for me. I thanked them non stop.
It was really a 惊魂 experience. And a hilarious one. :P

2nd year National Day Celebration in LSK for Wan Qi
This is the second year that Wan Qi celebrates her National Day in LSK. Last year, my mum brought her to school by taxi but there was a jam. In the end, they were late for almost an hour. This year my school will be celebrating National Day on Monday and LSK celebrated on Friday which means I can go. Yippee. I am so excited about it.
Went to Little India the day before to get the bracelets and forehead stickers for her with Mr Yeo Goody Daddy (Even though he is real tired from managing the national day celebration. His eyes are all red due to lack of sleep. Poor thing. but he still accompany me to buy his daughter's thingy.)
On the important day, Wan Qi could nt wake up. I had to ask her Giraffy - a name she gave to her new stuff toy bought by her gong gong to give her an acupunture before she will wake up. I often use the giraffe mouth to poke at her stomach and say it giraffy acupunture and she will laugh and laugh as it is very ticklish. So we managed to get to school 15mins earlier.
Waited for a while and my niece arrived. So of course its photo taking time. Oh its difficult to take pictures of my niece cos she is camera shy at the beginning and we are short of time. She wont want to look at the camera. haha. It was only after a good warm up in school then she is ok with the photography.
I like the picture that I took for my mum with her two grand daughters so cute and sweet. :)
After the celebration, all of Wan Qi's bracelets were gone. Why ? She distributed to all her friends. :P Aiyo I was thinking what a waste. haha. They look so pretty. Actually this costume was worn by her during her 3year old celebration in Dayspring Kindergarten. My mum had enlarged the top for Wan Qi if not she cant wear already. I also changed the bracelet from green to pink. Just to have a little change. But Wan Qi said she prefer to wear red and white shorts just like most of her classmates. Sigh I made and effort to dress her up and she said she just wanted to wear a red top and a white shorts. Dont care next year plan for her to wear sari. haha vainpot and domineering mummy.

Day 2 Lamma Island- Educational Trip
Yipee we reached the pier to Lamma Island. The ferry ticket is only $17.70hkg dollar.
Wan Qi loves cats. She is so happy to see one in Lamma island and kept stroking it.
I pray she does not bring one home when she is bigger. haha or my milky will be scared to death. haha ya a dog scared of cats. Just know it that day, a black cat tried to frighten it and she quickly run back to her mama (me!!!)
pupa fish. It will blow up its stomach when being "tickled" by the fisherman. a cute and funny sight.
This sea creature can be found way in dinosour time. The fisherman says that as it is ugly so nobody wants to eat them not even animals. haha. But now people do, they eat up the legs.
Wan Qi get a chance to feed the gigantic fishes. They were enormous. As big as me.
Didnt know starfish is hard. thought its slimy slimy
This is a 30 plus years old ship. Notice Wan Qi has a HU LU behind her back. This HU LU is actually used by fishermen to prevent their young toddlers or children from drowning. They are tied behind the kids at their backs to act like life jackets.
Pull Pull Pull
Wan Qi went to touch the scallop and abalone before the chef cooked it.
Eating seafood in Lamma Island is a must. Its so cheap. We order a fish, prawns, scallop and one abalone(haha the one and only)vege only cost $30.
But think should have tried Rainbow(the famous seafood restaurant in lamma island). The one that we tried is not bad , the food is fresh but think Rainbow might be more delicious since its famous.
Day 2 Hongkong - shopping at causeway bay and end up in NAN YA island
We went to causeway bay to do shopping. Yeo Yeo bought his working shirts in g2000 and they were cheap. :)Then we shopped in times square and met my colleague Hui Ru. She told me the way to go to Lian Xiang by MTR. Thanks to her, we saved money cos I was thinking of taking a cab the next day when we go for dim sum.
And since it started to rain, I decided not to shop in causeway bay. We then proceed to Wellington st where all the yummy food are. Managed to find Lian Xiang but it was simply too crowded so we headed to another famous toast stall. It was just a small eatery but it was packed of people (many famous people patronize this eatery). But we decided not to eat there as the lady boss was so stuck up. Who bothers, dont think the toast or ham macroni will be that great after all. We left the place and walked further down. This place is full of up slope and down slope. PANT PANT PANT!!!
And finally I found the famous wanton noodle eatery. So of course must try. Not bad. Yum Yum Yum. Then I proceed to look for the famous goose restaurant. Unfortunately there are too too many people. Famous people patronize this restaurant too. Saw Goh Chok Tong's picture at the entrance and many other country leaders. wow!
In the meantime, I always take note of the road signs. And I guessed that from Wellington st, I can get to central pier. So we just walked and walked. Finally we saw the MTR and Xihong said we just take it to see if we can make it to central pier to take the ferry to lamma island. But I thought there should be a bus that we can take to the central pier since we are already near zhong huan so I went to the bus stop and true enough there is a bus 15C to central pier. Hit jackpot!!! Yipee. And its a fun ride.
It's so windy at the top of the open top bus. Lucky that we took it after a rain or it will be too hot to enjoy the ride.
Xihong bought this peanut candy at their souvenir shop. But I dont dare to try all this sweet stuff.
So we managed to find central pier.haha Must praise myself for it cos I managed to find the open top bus without going by MTR suggested by Mr Yeo. Killed two birds with one stone. We can enjoy the trip by the open top bus(and its so cheap only $4.60 HKG dollar)plus it stops right at the central pier. If we were to take MTR, we will have to walk a long long way.The ferry fare is only $17.70HKG not even $3 SGD

Day 2 Hongkong
Not so early in the morning, we went out. Actually intended to go Lian Xiang Restaurant - a famous and old dim sum restaurant but since we woke up too late decided not to go. We woke up at 8 plus. Ya its considered late cos this restaurant open at 5am and it will be very packed if we go too late.(Thats what I gathered from the food bloggers for HKG)so we ended in a small eatery nearby our place. The YOU TIAO is great but not so for the porridge. Xihong ate the pigs' blood porridge. He siad is good but not my century egg porridge, I dont like HKG pork taste. haha
Still prefer Singapore century egg porridge
