Racial Harmony Celebration @ Dayspring Kindergarten

Finally,its 25 July Racial Harmony Day @ Dayspring Kindergarten. I am all prepared for Wan Qi's fancy costume "parade". hahaha very excited about it.

Wan Qi woke up at 8:00am in the morning after she had her breakfast which is the usual egg and oatmeal, I let her do her kumon homework first before I prepared her for school.
At about nine o clock, I bathed her and changed her to her indian costume. But then I realised the top's button was torn (oh my goodness) so I quickly got a small safety pin to pin it. However, I realised that the string to tie her skirt is not secure enough so my mum quickly got a rubber and sew it. Haha my mum is an experienced seamstress so no pro. She did it in 5mins time.
After that I put the accessories on her forehead and let Wan Qi wore the bracelets that I had bought for her. Meanwhile, I kept shouting for Xihong to take pictures of Wan Qi.

The skirt length was just nice- just a little above her shoes but I thought it can be quite dangerous for Wan Qi so we decided to take a cab instead of letting her take the schoolbus in case she fall from the bus again.(touch wood) However, after waiting for a while, we decided to drive instead as there are no avaliable taxis at that hour 9 plus.
So my mum, Xihong and I sent her to school on this very special day. When we arrived, I decided to let Wan Qi stand beside the Singapore flag and take a picture. Coincidentally, her friend You Rui came along so I said why not take a picture together. And they did. Then came Wan Qi's Chinese teacher who was in a smart cowboy suit. So I took a picture of them too and Wan Qi was so happy.
In fact, all the teachers at Dayspring Kindergarten were dressed up in their traditional costume and they even have showcase of different ethnic group 's costume, food, bla bla. And the students also get to enjoy different ethnic group's dishes. I thought that was great. Back home, Wan Qi told me that she does not enjoy some of the food like the chilli rice cos it's hot. hee but she enjoyed most of the food.

After we sent Wan Qi to school, we immediately went to develop the photos as we bought a new camera and wanted to test the effect. Then both Xihong and I think that Wan Qi's friend You Rui is so much prettier than Wan Qi cos Wan Qi has a dark complexion. I told Wei Shan about it. And Wei Shan said Wow just by being fair will win ah. I repiled "Yes, the fair people wins and so Ada wins lo. Next time, I wont let Wan Qi take pictures with Ada. hee hee kiasu mummy."In fact, Xihong has been telling me that as Wan Qi grows up, she seems to be not so pretty. And then now many people thinks that Wan Qi looks more and more like me. Hey hey so what does that mean( :}

When I had my break during in school, I called Xihong to ask him did Wan Qi enjoy herself in school. She told me she did. He also told me that her chinese teacher compliment her saying that she is very pretty that day and guess what Wan Qi said. She told her teacher" You are also very pretty."Arent she a sweet talker.

But more importantly, the thing that made Xihong proud was when Wan Qi was waiting at the school gate, he told me that there was a commotion. Commotion? He said the parents were like saying wow Wan Qi is so pretty today. The bus aunty saw Wan Qi too and even asked the bus driver uncle to alight the bus to see Wan Qi. ok ok very exaggerating hor the proud Daddy talking about commotion. hee hee.

Well, but the effort goes to me la not that Wan Qi is pretty, just the colourful costume and accessories that I had chosen for her. Quite sad that Wan Qi didnt take after Xihong's fair complexion. In my mind I was telling myself must faithfully let her apply sunblock when she is bigger. Barbie Hsu is also quite dark previously ma so with constant effort, Wan Qi might be fair too hor. Yes I am the vain mummy lo, next time Wan Qi will also learn to wear fake eyelashes bla bla from her vain mummy. haha

Count down to Wan Qi's first racial harmony celebration in Dayspring

Very excited about Wan Qi's first racial harmony day celebration in Dayspring kindergarten as I thought she will look cute in other traditional costume.

Last Saturday, I told her in the morning that we will go to Little India to buy a set of Indian costume for her. Er I said Abunanan costume and she was laughing away. Then I thought oohs thats not very nice and corrected myself. However, the damage was done. She kept saying Abunanan until I told her when we reached Little India she cant say that or the uncles and aunties will be angry.

At first I thought she wont understand what I meant about buying an Indian costume. But then while we were on our way to Little India, she told me that after buying the indian costume, she will wear it and said "Abracadabra"and she will turned into a Indian girl, with that I realise she understand what I had told her. I laughed and said yes yes and she requested me to buy a set of indian clothes for my mum and Xihong too so that they can turned into indian people too. :>

While we were at Little India, just Wan Qi and I , she told me "mama, there are so many indian people hor". Hee she didnt say Abunanan. We had an interesting outing at Little India.
Wan Qi tried on an indian sari with crystals all over but I didnt buy it cos I am afraid she will trp on the sari. But she really look cute in that sari. Too bad I didnt take a photo of her wearing it as I thought its not very nice to do that.

In the end, I bought a colourful set of indian costume called laheng or something with many beadings. Wan Qi fitted nicely in that so I bought it at $25. After that I went to buy bracelets and studs for Wan Qi.

The shopkeeper told me that many Chinese will come and buy indian costumes and accessories when its near to Racial Harmony Day. I told him ya I bought it for Racial Harmony celebration and added that it's so nice to be able to do that , we Singaporeans are really fortunate to be able to celebrate this day in a peaceful and jovial manner.

After that I told Wan Qi that its important for us to be able to uphold racial harmonious among our people. I told her we must be friends with the indian, malay, eurasian people so that Singapore will be a forever peaceful place to live in. I hope she understands what I am trying to say to her.

Then we went off and I told her on Friday, she will be wearing Indian traditonal costume and that her favourite form teacher Mrs Rai might be wearing the same type of costume as her too and she was overjoy. Before we left Little India, I also brought her to an indian provision shop. I bought a piece of ginger and the whole shop smell of spices and I tried to introduce some spices to Wan Qi. And Wan Qi was busily sniffing the spices even the dried chillies. Hee silly girl.

Then yesterday, my sis came over to my place and Wan Qi showed her the indian costume. The costume had a strong perfume smell. My mum then said "有臭臭印度味"And Wan Qi reprimanded my mum"你怎么可以说臭臭印度味呢！这样是不对的。" We looked at each other and burst out laughing yaya Wan Qi is right.

Wan Qi 's first kumon lesson

Brought Wan Qi for her first kumon lesson yesterday. She did two sets of maths booklet in about ten minutes. I thought it will take a long time so I went to shop and safe to shop. When I went back, I was shock to see that the teacher was bringing Wan Qi to the toilet i guess. So I ran to her and asked the teacher if she needs to go to the toilet. The teacher said no she was just looking for me. So I stayed with Wan Qi for a while.

After that the teacher handed Wan Qi a maths symbol magnetic board which Wan Qi is required to put all the magnetic numbers on the board. I tried to ask her what is that number bla bla bla but the teacher said I should not be talking to Wan Qi when she is doing it. They will check on her after she had put all the magnetic nos on the board.

In about ten minutes, the teacher said ok that's the end of her lesson. I was like hah so fast. And the sad thing is the teacher told me Wan Qi is not familiar with her nos 6 - 10 when being asked randomly. Funny though cos I know Wan Qi is weak in her recognition of the nos but I thought not so bad lei. Ai yo I prayed that her maths will not be so telok like mine. In fact, after i brought her to kumon that day, feel so lousy about it. All my fault for neglecting it cos i thought its no good to memorise the nos when she was younger. I realise i am wrong lei. Now i think being able to chant the nos is actually good then slowly introduce the concept will be a better option. It's painful to have to look on the hind side to realise this but I guess it's not too late la. Hee hee self comforting. Really hope her maths will be as good as her dad. I can remember how I perspire when I did my test in kindergarten. I was perspiring a lot cos I didnt know how to do sequencing. See I cam still remember it vividly, thats why I do not wish to let Wan Qi follow my footstep. No kidding. After I graduated from my jc and university, I still dream of forgetting to memorise A maths formulas before the o level exam. Can you believe it? And here I am didnt focus on Maths when Wan Qi was younger. Really must 撞墙。

Kumon required students to sit down on their own and do their booklet without parents' help so they really have to be self learner which i think it's very important thus chosen kumon as Wan Qi 's enrichment.

In fact, there was an 2 and a half years old indian girl who is very independent, she will just sit on stacks of chairs to do her kumon booklet. A very independent learner. When Wan Qi is younger, she is also like that. But now I realise she doesnt. She will write a few words and run off doing other things.Gosh I think it's all my fault. I am being too lazy to reinforce it and hence the good habit is not inculcated. :(

Wan Qi 's Chinese.

Wan Qi loves to speak in Mandarin. Sometimes when I answered her in English, she will insist that I reply her in Mandarin. So xian and worrying.

However, I must comment that her Chinese is really quite " powerful " nowadays.

I was gobbling my food as I need to go to school that day. And Wan Qi said 哇po po你看，妈妈吃得津津有味.

Then the other day, Wan Qi suddenly came running towards me and she said'' MILKY要追我，我一溜烟的跑掉。

A few days ago, I was about to share my bread with Wan Qi when she told me 来来来，让我来分。我分最公平.

And then the other day i overheard her role playing as a teacher and she told her stuff toys
小朋友，不要迷信，迷信过头就是神经病。（she actually memorise this phrase from her fav stories ）

In fact, she can memorise whole chunks of story lines from the six different books which really impressed me cos the chinese in these books is quite chin.

And the best part is, she tried to use it in her daily life. There was this day, I was holding her hands as we walked along the path to punggol plaza. She saw that the leaves are falling down from the trees and shouted"好吓人啊，树都变成了骷髅了。快跑啊。It's so funny and I joined in her impromptu role play and run along.

And the other day when my mum told her a story about crows while I was teaching in school, she told my mum "我和乌鸦一样会孝顺爸爸妈妈。My mum later told me she actually know the meaning of 孝顺。

The day when we were on our way to ikea and I told her that is our singapore flag. She said"我要保卫新加坡，不让敌人攻打。and Xihong said wowow.
I dont know why she said this but i think it must be because in the morning i was sharing an altas book with her and we couldnt find the singapore flag and she was very unhappy and hit the book. hahaha and i told her we must love our country no matter what even when singapore is a small country.
And i also told her about our neighbours saying that sometimes they bullied us. Perhaps this is the reason. hee hee don know where did she pick the phrase from.


Sometime she might laugh at herself for speaking out of tone. The other day she did and she laughed and said "我糊涂了，就像范兰罗德勒" a funny muddle head character in her fav chinese story book.

The sweet things that she told my mum who was bribed instantly by her. "popo 你知道吗？你不在家时，我很想念你。

popo 你煮的食物很不错。plus she will put her thumbs up.

The other day she was being very rude to my mum and I threatened to cane her and boycott hershe cried and said"妈妈，你不要这样对我，我知道错了，我会改过的 and bla bla. but i will ignore her cos she always use this tactic just that she will change the sentence a bit. but the 我知道错了，我会改过的。will always remain . haha if one were to hear it for the first time, will fell for it because she really say it sincerely and of course with all the tears. But i always tell myself not to 心软。unlike me, I saw my mum wiping her tears when Wan Qi said her 台词。hee cruel mummy hor but no choice had to discipline her.
